冠词，是一种特殊形容词/修饰语。类似冠词的修饰语(modifiers)叫限定词(determiners)，也叫“广义冠词”。诸如：a/an, the, this, these, that, those, such, another, other, the other, my, our, several,few, a few, some, any, some other, any other, little, a little, several of the,much,more, most, the most, much more,one, two, the first, the second, both, all, the both, the two, all the ,the whole, one of the, ......。可分两大类，不定限定词与特定限定词。
现在回答本题。①another=an/one+other：字面：一个其它的，其它一个，另一个。它属于不定限定词，与one配合使用。例如：I have two friends. One is a teacher, another is a doctor我有两友。一个是教师，另一个是医生。注意：究竟是什么教师与医生，不确定。
②the other，是一个特定限定词，与不定限定词one配用，特指其余的，或单数或复数。例如：I have five friends. One is a teacher, the other(friends)are doctors我有五友。一个是教师，其余的是医生。
